DOO WOP FESTIVAL COMES CRUSIN’ INTO GLASSBORO TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL BOY

Proceeds from the First Annual Event to Benefit Jacob Myers
and his Family’s Fight against Muscular Dystrophy

GLASSBORO – Philly’s own Mid-Life Crisis and The Original Street Corner 5ive will headline Glassboro’s Doo Wop Tribute on Thursday, August 9 on Rowan Boulevard from 4:00-10:00 p.m. Enjoy music and dancing all night, with a special guest appearance from Gloucester County favorite Michael Jones. A full 20% of the restaurant proceeds will benefit Jacob Myers–son of Glassboro Police officer Mike Myers–and his fight against Muscular Dystrophy.

Free parking is available for the event, and the rain date is August 16.

“The Glassboro Police Department and the entire Glassboro community are coming together to help the Myers family raise $60,000 for a customized van for Jacob, who is unable to walk. Jacob is part of our family and we will do anything to help,” said Glassboro Council President Tony Fiola.

The Doo Wop Tribute comes on the heels of the hugely successful Summerfest event on July 12, which attracted close to 1,000 visitors. With a similar event format, the Doo Wop Tribute will rock with live music, food, beer, wine and tons of fun for the whole family. Landmark Americana will host a beer garden and plenty of food selections, with Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill, Italian Brothers Pizza, Bogey’s, 24 Scoops & More and Carolina Blue offering their own menu favorites. Auburn Road Winery will offer tastings and selections for sale by the bottle or the case.

The Philadelphia Union Soccer Mobile Tour will return with the PPL Soccer Kick to test your shot accuracy. Also check out the Toyota inflatable field, where kids can play in teams against each other in timed rotations. The 12th man crew accompanies the Mobile Tour stocked with free Union giveaways and promotional material.

Among the activities for kids will be a Moon Bounce and candy sand art, with proceeds benefiting Angels of God Clothing Closet. Enjoy Polish Water Ice and local produce and specialty items from Haynicz Orchardview Farm, Tony Morelli Farm Market, Glassboro Honey Co. and the Lollipop Shoppe. Other vendors include Verizon Wireless, Crosswinds Flight School, Miche Bags, Cherelle’s Paper Bead Jewelry, Best Wholesale Sunglasses, Mackenna’s Hair Fashions, LG Bags & Accessories and Scentsy Wickless by June.

Downtown Glassboro merchants will offer menus, coupons and more at the Glassboro Marketplace information booth. Also meet local restauranteurs Corey and Jennifer Gardner-Meeks, gearing up to open the Green Zebra organic soup and sandwich shop in the Whitney Center on Rowan Boulevard.
